SNOW

We are at my parents home and just amazed at all the snow that has come since we got here in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday!  Will post pictures in the next few days.  Currently it is snowing, hailing, lightening and thundering!  Wyatt is outside throwing snowballs at Mara who is inside watching him through a glass sliding door.  Their giggles make the 7 hour drive in the middle of the night worth it.

Cupcakes for Cancer

Saturday was the big day.  We held the Cupcakes for Cancer Fun Run to raise money to help the Downer Family pay for Greg's medical bills.  It was a success!  We were able to raise a large sum to take some burden off this great family.  What we originally though would be a small neighborhood thing turned into a large, community gathering!  With between 200-300 people there, we had lots of fun and lots of cupcakes!  There are so many stories to tell from that morning, I will try to write them up later.  I just wanted to take a moment to thank the countless people who helped to make this day a success-you are all so wonderful! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

I also want to ask if any of you took pictures of anything at the event to please email me the pictures so we can put the pictures together on a CD for the Downer family.  THANK YOU- sebingham78@gmail.com.

Scriptures

My children amaze me.

I know I often complain about this or that with my kids, but truly, they are amazing.

The past 9 weeks we have tried a new approach to scripture study with the kids, and I am so happy to report that it is working much better than traditional scripture study. 

Every morning before school we would read a few verses from the Book of Mormon, but often there was fighting over who got to read first or last or whatever.  It ended up running the spirit away instead of inviting the spirit into our home.  I felt prompted to try having them memorize a scripture a week. 

On Mondays, we pick a scripture and then discuss what it means.  We spend a few minutes each morning going over the scripture and reviewing a scripture from past weeks.  They have memorized them so quickly!  I am shocked at how well they remember the scriptures from week to week.  I have been so touched by the tender mercies the Lord has sent our way in regard to our scripture memorization-

For example, during conference they were playing in the next room and Wyatt came running in when he heard one of the general authorities saying a scripture we had learned a couple weeks earlier.  A few times sacrament speakers have quoted scriptures the kids had memorized and it caught their attention and helped them to actually listen in Sacrament- this also occurred with our Home Teachers!  I know this is a blessing from the Lord to help me know we are doing what he asked of us and it is a blessing to my children to know that the scriptures are important and can be part of our daily lives.

He is 5!

Monday, Wyatt turned 5.  It was a Hot Wheels birthday.  Hot wheels cake and presents.  He had fun helping to make his cake- we were able to make the entire thing dairy free (except the donut wheels)  He picked out the oreos we needed to make the "road" and as he started crushing them- I realized buying the Christmas oreos with red creme wasn't the best choice. Without missing a beat, Wyatt says, "It's okay Mom.  It will just be a blood- I ran someone over in my Hot Wheels car- so it is okay- is just a bloody road!"  Where does he get this stuff?????

Miracles still happen!

Answers to prayers come in strange ways- Wyatt has struggled with going to sleep for the last few years- he just can't go to sleep.  He goes to bed at 7:30 but doesn't go to sleep until 9:30 or 10 and then is up at 5:30. He gets so frustrated (as do we) and he cries and says, "I just can't go to sleep! I try and try and I just can't" Our last pediatrician gave us lots of no good advice about changing his bed time routine that never helped.

Today he was suppose to see our new Dr. He however, couldn't come to work because his dog got sick.  So we saw Dr Rosemary and  she was wonderful!  She talked to Wyatt about a lot of things and then asked if was a good sleeper.  He shook his head sadly and said, "No. No I am not.  It is hard to go to sleep."  We talked for a minute and she suggested he take melatonin a half hour before bed each night. She said his levels are just off.

SO, last night we tried it- the kid fell asleep BEFORE Mara (is this completely unheard of)  and he slept a solid 11 hours. He has been a totally different kid this morning.  Happy, helpful and the sweet little guy we use to know.  I am so sorry that Dr. G's dog is sick but I know it was so we could meet Dr Rosemary and finally get an answer to our prayers.

another week down

November already- really???  Life is good.  We are blessed.  Nate is wonderful- he watched the kids for two day so I could go hang out in St. George with some friends from high school- it was so good to see those girls and to have a break from being Mom.  The weather may actually be cooling off- hurray!  Cupcakes for Cancer 5K is 6 days away!  I hope I don't die trying to run it.  I think it is going to be a lot of fun and a really great turn out.  I am so grateful for all those who are helping to put this together, donating time, talents, money, and services to make this possible.  What a great opportunity to come together to show the world that good people still exist- that hope and love are still in abundance in this world.
